Carlsbad accepts $500,000 state grant to rehabilitate Shorthorn Park

The Carlsbad City Council voted to accept a $500,000 grant from the New Mexico Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department to rehabilitate Shorthorn Park.
Miss Testa told the council the grant is funded through the Land and Water Conservation Fund and will support construction of features including a dog park, pickleball court, new playground equipment, parking, restroom facilities, lighting, shade pavilions, a batting cage, seating areas and landscaping. She said the city has already budgeted matching funds and that the award is contingent on signing the grant agreement.
The memorandum of agreement requires the city to maintain the facility and comply with the grant terms; Miss Testa said the project is fully designed and the city will be ready to move forward once the grant agreement is executed. Council approved accepting the award and the memorandum of agreement by roll call.
