The Carlsbad City Council voted to adopt the city’s FY2027 interim budget and to approve fourth-quarter adjustments for fiscal year 2026 after a staff presentation detailing revenues, expenditures and grant awards.
Miss Salcedo summarized the interim budget, saying the city is budgeting $193,600,000 in revenues for FY2027, about $8.3 million higher than the current fiscal year. She listed budgeted labor costs at $76,500,000 (an increase of $5.6 million), an estimated grocery tax of $6,500,000 per month, operating costs of $52,700,000 and capital carryover tied mainly to multiyear street and water/sewer projects.
For the fourth-quarter adjustments, staff identified a request to increase revenue and spending in the firefighter recruitment fund by $149,112.92 to cover equipment for new recruits and a laundry unit to support post-accident decontamination. Council moved and approved both the quarter-adjustment resolution and the FY2027 interim budget on separate roll-call votes.
Councilors thanked staff and department directors for budget preparation and noted the city elected to pick up a portion of employee PERA contributions totaling $2,300,000 for FY2027. The interim budget and adjustments were approved; staff will return any final contract or further details to the council as needed.
