Ennis commission backs TxDOT Kaufman Street 'Green Ribbon' corridor improvements

The Ennis City Commission on June 17 adopted a resolution supporting Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) corridor improvements for Kaufman Street (the Coffman Corridor gateway project) and related Highway Safety Improvement Program funding.
Staff explained the project is on TxDOT right-of-way and remains at about 60% design completion. The concept includes vegetation, median greening, and intersection enhancements intended to improve pedestrian and vehicular movements downtown as the underpass project moves forward. Staff said sidewalks and other elements are still under discussion with TxDOT depending on available funding.
The resolution is primarily procedural — TxDOT required a local resolution of support as part of the grant and design process — and the commission adopted it by voice vote.
Staff said additional funding sources and final design approvals will be coordinated with TxDOT as the project proceeds.
