Franklin County commissioners approve contracts and grants, postpone sports‑commission grant; several abstentions recorded

The Franklin County Board of Commissioners approved multiple contracts, grants, purchases and board appointments during its May 26, 2026 general session and postponed one item for further contract revision.

Highlights of adopted measures included:

- Resolution 33226: Approved a professional services contract with Clean Enterprises Ltd for the Justice for All 2026 youth summer camp in the amount of $48,229.50. County officials said the camp will be held at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, facilitate up to 60 youth for a June 8–13 session, and had more than 100 applicants this year. Vote: Commissioner Cwley yes; Commissioner Grady yes; Commissioner Boyce recorded an abstention; resolution adopted.

- Resolution 33326: Approved a Flow Partner LLC agreement up to $49,000 for internal communications, conflict management and team‑building services for the Franklin County Coroner's Office through October 2026. Presenter said staff have taken a proprietary employee assessment tool now being used to guide the program. Vote recorded as adopted.

- Resolution 33426: Authorized a $47,581 maintenance agreement with Metals Treatment Technologies LLC for bullet trap cleaning and lead abatement at the sheriff’s office firing range; the presenter said lead and brass will be recycled. Adopted.

- Resolution 33526: Adopted an expedited Type II annexation petition (ANX 1126) of approximately 1.681 acres from Jackson Township to the City of Columbus (parcel at 2641 Gance Road). Planning staff said the petition meets statutory requirements, citing Ohio Revised Code sections 709.021 and 709.023.

- Resolution 33626: A proposed $355,000 grant to the Greater Columbus Sports Commission to support sports tourism and economic development was POSTPONED to June 2, 2026, at the presenter’s request to finalize contract language and avoid overlapping deliverables.

- Resolution 33726: Approved a $192,500 grant to US Together, Inc. to support phase three of Central Ohio’s immigrant and refugee economic integration plan (workforce development, employer engagement, small‑business training and culturally responsive programming). Adopted.

- Resolution 33826: Approved a $745,000 subaward with the Columbus Urban League for the Franklin County Ready to Earn summer youth employment program; the Urban League will serve at least 186 youth, offering work‑readiness training and placements that may pay up to $15 per hour. Deputy County Administrator Joy Bibons said the programs are more than workforce development and described their impact on participating youth. Vote: adopted with Commissioner Boyce recorded as abstaining.

- Resolution 33926: Approved an $88,000 VAWA subgrant to the Franklin County Prosecutor's Office to support the special victims unit and victim services for calendar year 2026; presenters noted a 2.41% increase over the prior year award.

- Resolutions 34026–34626: Commissioners approved participation in the Purchasing Cooperative of America and multiple print‑shop equipment contracts (Coronado Binding Systems) and purchase orders.
