Darien council approves warrants, multiple public-works contracts and backs DuPage legislative program

The Darien City Council on Dec. 15 approved routine payroll warrants and a suite of contracts for public-works materials and services, while formally supporting regional legislative priorities for 2026.
Treasurer Mike asked the council to approve warrant 252615, totaling $573,138.13 with payroll of $498,296.17; the council approved the motion by roll call. The council also approved warrant 252616, a separate disbursement that brought forward additional payroll and vendor payments.
Council members voted to adopt a consent agenda that included contract awards and unit-price proposals for asphalt work, piping and storm-sewer components, trucking services for excavation waste, rental equipment and other routine public-works supplies for the May 1, 2026–April 30, 2027 contract year. The items passed together by roll call.
In new business, the council approved a contract with Davey Resource Group not to exceed $52,350 to build a comprehensive tree inventory database tied to a Trees Forever grant. City staff noted the contract is a full pass-through and is grant-funded.
Council members also approved separate proposals to replace lighting fixtures at the public works facility with updated LED systems; council said the LED replacements are intended to improve illumination and safety in maintenance bays and workstations.
Separately, the council approved a contract with Windy City Amusements Inc. to provide rides at the 38th annual Darienfest, scheduled Aug. 7–9, 2026.
On policy, the council voted to adopt a resolution endorsing the DuPage Mayors and Managers Conference 2026 legislative action program. The resolution lists priorities including protecting sustainable municipal pensions, investing in local communities, modernizing public-records management and adapting to new mobility choices; the city will forward the resolution to regional and state legislators and the governor’s office.
The meeting concluded after routine committee schedule announcements and budget-calendar reminders. The council adjourned with holiday greetings; the next regular meeting is scheduled for Jan. 19, 2026.
