Rachel Cooper elected chair; Cat Waltering chosen vice chair of Hideout Planning Commission

At its Feb. 19 meeting, the Hideout Planning Commission elected Rachel Cooper as chair and Cat Waltering as vice chair.
Two candidates were nominated for chair: Chase Winder and Rachel Cooper. Each described prior service and reasons for seeking the role. Winder highlighted prior work in land planning and state-level connections; Cooper emphasized five years’ service on the commission and availability to shepherd the general-plan update. A first motion to appoint Winder failed; a subsequent motion to appoint Cooper carried by a 4–3 vote.
Following the chair vote, Cat Waltering accepted a nomination for vice chair. The commission appointed her by voice vote. Outgoing chair Donna ceremonially handed leadership duties to the newly elected chair.
Commissioners noted that the chair’s duties include monthly coordination with the mayor and supervising the general-plan update process; members recommended that future chairs include summary updates of those meetings in the commission agenda for transparency.
