Staff said the office-lead recruitment drew 27 applicants; three were interviewed and the staff recommendation was to hire Jamie McCartney, a former city employee with seven years of back-office experience. Councilors moved, seconded and approved the hire by roll call.
On the city-planner posting, staff reported only one or two applicants met the advertised minimum qualifications. Council members expressed concern about retooling the job description after advertising, possible perceptions of favoritism and the long-term need to replace the departing planner 'Hannah.' Several councilors preferred sending the matter to the personnel committee rather than changing the job description immediately. The council voted to authorize the personnel committee to review the position and report back.
