A zoning-board representative said the county planning board requested insertion of a clarifying sentence and that the planning board supports the change. "People were coming up and fencing their entire property, which is a detriment to the wildlife and a detriment to all the neighbors," a speaker said, explaining the intent to reduce large enclosures.
Trustees clarified that existing legal electric enclosures would be grandfathered temporarily but that the draft code would require removal of nonconforming electric fences by May 1, 2030. One trustee asked whether the amortization applied to both height and electric fences; the board clarified it was intended for electric enclosures specifically.
After discussion the board tabled further action so members can take more time to review the text and gather public input before resuming the hearing.
