Stone Mountain council approves DDA appointment, parking lights, security camera and depot cleanup

The Stone Mountain City Council on March 17 unanimously approved a slate of administrative and infrastructure items, including the appointment of Robert Singleton to the Downtown Development Authority, a lighting agreement with Georgia Power for a new parking lot at 865 Main Street, purchase and installation of a pan-tilt-zoom security camera for a city parking lot, and a professional-services contract to clean the historic depot building.

The appointment of Robert Singleton to fill an unexpired DDA vacancy was presented by the city manager and economic development director and passed on a unanimous roll-call vote. Council members voiced no questions before the vote and welcomed the selection.

Public works director Mike Hilton explained the lighting contract would install two bronze/black parking-area fixtures and tied the estimated cost to the city’s packet: “The estimated monthly cost $740 a year. The full installation is 8,000,” he said, noting funds had been budgeted. Council members asked about pole placement and whether cameras would be included; Mike Hilton said the lights were a separate service agreement from the cameras.

The council then approved the purchase and installation of a PTZ security camera to cover the new parking lot and separately approved Resolution 2026-03, a budget amendment to cover the camera expenses. Lieutenant Bob told the council the chosen camera type would be mounted to a building, tied into the city’s network and set to a sentry mode that follows movement in the lot. Both motions passed unanimously on separate roll-call votes.

On the depot cleanup, the city presented two proposals (one near $9,875 and another slightly higher). Council members pressed for timeline and licensing details. City staff confirmed vendor licensing and said staff would supervise work because of the depot’s historic nature. The council voted unanimously to approve the handyman contractor proposal.

What’s next: contractors will schedule and begin work per the vendor contracts and the approved budget amendment. The council did not identify additional deadlines during the public session.
