Chippewa Township agenda: RFPs, street bids, grants, salt storage and recreation update

At the June 12 Chippewa Township agenda meeting, supervisors reviewed several routine items and department updates, including upcoming procurement timelines, grant applications and facilities work.
Staff said the RFP for pension services (the PLS RFP) has been advertised and that documents are due at 4:00 p.m. on June 19, the night of the township's next meeting; staff expect to receive proposals and will open them at a subsequent agenda meeting.
Officials outlined plans for the 2024 street contract: the township intends to advertise bids for chip-sealing and line painting on a set of roads identified by public works staff, including Darington Road, McKinley (line painting), Oak and Brooks (chip seal) and Winterberg Road, with bid openings expected at next month’s agenda meeting.
A supervisor provided a copy of a Sanitary Authority resolution and asked staff to prepare a township resolution that would be nearly identical; the board discussed whether the authority needed to act first or whether the township could adopt the resolution directly, and staff said they would prepare a draft for the next meeting.
Staff also noted a term expiration for the property maintenance code appeals representative and said the township will address appointment of a replacement if needed.
On public-safety funding, staff reported that a COPS hiring grant application is being prepared and submitted; the grant, if approved, could cover up to about 70% of salary and benefits for new officers, enabling additional hires in spring.
Public works reported a recently completed salt-storage building intended to eliminate off-site storage costs. Street department staff said a truck ordered several years ago is scheduled for delivery next week and that a separate vehicle purchased through an LSA grant may be reimbursed pending a September decision.
Parks and recreation staff said the splash pad remains popular but that limited water pressure in Chippewa Township constrains operation; they are investigating options and expect an update next month. Summer camp began this week with roughly 400 children enrolled.
Finance materials were noted to be in a supervisor's conference and there were no further questions before the meeting proceeded to the next item.
