President Carmel opened the Rhinebeck Union Free School District board meeting by welcoming newly seated trustees Nikki Barker and Hallie and by saying the board spent an afternoon in retreat setting goals for policy, budget oversight and support for district leadership. "In the September meeting, we will outline these goals and the timelines and benchmarks for each," President Carmel said.
The board president also thanked community partners for recent facility support, noting donor pavers at the front of the building donated through the Rhinebeck School Foundation and saying, "We will start to see the projects, the foundation funds, come to fruition in the coming weeks." She praised coordination among the foundation, the PTSA and the booster club and pledged the board would work cooperatively and professionally for students, adding that "there have been times in the last year where we have fallen short on these ideals." President Carmel said the board pledges to improve.
Dr. Luchinski gave the administrative report and listed several summer capital projects at Daniel Warren, including drainage improvements, curbing, fencing, repaving of the Florence Street walkway and lot, new lighting and security cameras. He said the school added a new Bellows science lab by repurposing a former reading nook and that the district has replaced the main campus electrical transformer and fitness equipment at the athletic center. "Our administrators are all back in the office coordinating schedules and communications," Dr. Luchinski said.
On staffing, Dr. Luchinski said the district expects to hire at least 20 new employees — including monitors, teaching assistants and teachers — before the first day of school and that a new staff orientation is scheduled for August 26. He also described athletic participation this summer: 240 varsity and JV athletes and an additional 110 modified athletes practicing with 33 coaches.
Dr. Luchinski said the district will launch its Rhinebeck strategic plan in September, emphasizing student inquiry, social-emotional screening and expanded professional learning time for staff; he noted the plan adds "only six early dismissal dates over the course of the year," subject to later adjustments. The district updated its website with strategic-plan materials and will present goal progress at upcoming board meetings.
The report closed with calendar and implementation notes for the plan and the superintendent's commitment to present more detail at the October–December meetings.
