Glenwood board approves routine bills and appointments, hears veterans plea and infrastructure complaints

The Village of Glenwood board handled routine municipal business and heard several public concerns at its Sept. 2 meeting.
Finance staff presented bills payable totaling $324,287.47 (Aug. 28) and payroll for the period (grand total $223,887.55 after police reimbursements); trustees approved both by roll call. The board also approved a resolution naming Fire Chief Kevin A. Welsh Jr. to ECOM’s 911 operating committee so the village has an official police and fire representative on that body.
Trustees approved a motion to purchase Christmas decorations for Hallstead to I-394 using previously allocated ARPA funds.
During new business a trustee raised a contract concern about AMR ambulance billing: the trustee cited a 2025–26 contract rate of $73,542.66 per month but said the village is paying $85,824.32 per month (roughly $12,000 more per month, or about $144,000 per year). Staff said the prior board authorized a mid-contract adjustment earlier in the year and that the administration has begun conversations to renegotiate contracts and RDA agreements.
In public comment, resident questions and comments included: traffic controls related to the Delta Sonic site (board suggested a no-left-turn sign as an option), whether annual community events (a bonfire) will proceed and whether the fieldhouse will be available for warming and restrooms, a request from Wayey Hust (self-identified American Legion commander) for a veterans resource contact and meeting space (the mayor and administrator said the village has begun outreach and said the village fieldhouse is available for meetings), a question about monthly tornado-siren testing (staff said sirens are tested the first Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m.), and a resident complaint about severe flooding on the 400 block of Manurva after heavy rain; staff pledged to investigate and follow up.
The board adjourned after the public comment period.
