Town Council hears engineering timelines for Wallah roundabout and Pike Road intersection

Town engineers briefed the council on the status of several local road projects, saying the Wallah roundabout still requires two key items—lighting for signage and final curb/curve cuts—and that staff have asked the contractor and developer for a completion timeline.
"The roundabout has two remaining items that need to be done. One of those is the lighting for the signs. And then number two is the curve cut," said Brad Flowers, the town engineer, summarizing the outstanding work and telling council members staff will press the responsible parties for a schedule. Flowers told the council the existing ruts and mud at the site are creating a safety hazard, particularly for young drivers.
Flowers also reviewed planned intersection work on Pike Road near the school, describing an ATRI-funded design for a peanut-style (two-bulb) roundabout intended to reduce cut-through traffic and limit impacts to adjoining property. He said consultants are being finalized and that construction is currently anticipated in spring 2027, with staff aiming to accelerate the design and letting toward the end of 2026 if state clearances and final agreements permit.
For other projects, Flowers said a Marlor intersection widening is scheduled for a September 2026 letting with construction beginning by year-end, and that Marlor resurfacing is slated for late summer/early fall 2026 as a nighttime operation. He described the Tron road work as a full mill-and-overlay planned for 2026 letting and construction.
Council members asked staff to follow up with the contractor on the Wallah roundabout completion schedule and to provide clear documentation showing what changed in the comprehensive-plan draft before the planning commission’s Jan. 26 meeting. The engineering presentation closed with staff saying they would return with a more precise timeline and any proposed enforcement or remedial steps if contractor performance continues to delay completion.
