Commission approves FY26 sewer rates, holding base fee at $30

The sewer commission voted to approve sewer rates for fiscal year 2026, keeping the base charge at $30 per month (annual $360) and adopting the recommended volumetric charge. Staff presented the rate using the commission’s modeling and projected usage figures.

Kathy, the commission’s finance lead, confirmed the recommended volumetric rate and the modeling assumptions, saying, “Yes, it is,” when asked to confirm the proposed $1.91 per 100 cubic feet figure. Commissioners discussed historical fluctuations in billed units — earlier years showed estimates between about 284,000 and 330,000 units — and noted recent revenue shortfalls tied to a lag in meters and billing from the regional water provider.

Peter moved to approve the FY26 user rate as presented; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote with all members present voting in favor. The commission recorded the outcome as approved at the meeting.

The commission emphasized the decision reflects present-year revenue projections and debt-service planning; staff noted that future base-rate adjustments were contemplated in multi-year debt schedules tied to SRF loans and would be revisited in FY27–28 as required by financing needs. The commission asked staff to continue monitoring meter reads, lean/collection activity, and incoming Weir River corrections that could affect revenue.
