Weddington ' The Planning Board approved an entry monument sign for the Luna subdivision, finding the design and proposed low-voltage downlighting meet the board's aesthetic and visibility standards.
Staff explained that subdivision entry monuments and perimeter walls are subject to Planning Board review for aesthetics and placement; the exhibit showed the sign located outside required sight triangles and set back from the right-of-way. The applicant said lighting would be LED low-voltage fixtures beneath the roof section and landscape lighting around the feature.
Board members approved the sign by voice vote with a motion and noted the importance of selecting plantings that will not obscure the sign as they mature.
What's next: Applicant may proceed with sign construction consistent with the approved exhibit and the town's landscape and visibility requirements.
Quote: "It's a beautiful monument, but be mindful of plantings that overgrow and obscure the sign," one board member said.
