Village manager outlines procurement plan for new village hall; parks and recreation projects to continue through late summer

The village manager reported to the Chatham Village Board on July 6 that nine firms submitted qualifications to assist with a new village hall project and staff plans to narrow the field for individual interviews.

"We had nine firms that sent in our (qualifications)," the village manager said, adding that staff will shortlist firms and schedule individual interview times rather than holding group presentations. The manager said staff, along with Jim and other staff members, will propose an interview and selection approach at the next board meeting.

The manager also updated the board on parks projects. The pickleball courts have received a first coating of surfacing; final surface work and fence installation are contingent on dryer weather and the arrival of nets, and staff is targeting completion around late August or early September. Work at Keystone involved removing the top surface to address separation from the subbase and then resurfacing; staff reported the subbase was sound.

Parks committee members reported tree trimming, new lights, a completed sidewalk at JC's Park and plans for signage: a large welcome sign at Chatham Community Park, a sign at the cemetery plus a road-widening to improve access and landscaping at those entrances. Planning continues for a renovated South Park concession stand used by multiple sports. One bike night is confirmed and staff is arranging a separate walkers' night after concerns about cyclists' speed.

Staff said more detailed project schedules and procurement steps will be provided at upcoming meetings.
