Residents press youth programming and green‑team volunteering as council hears community items

During public‑comment periods at the Feb. 20 Saddle Brook Township Council meeting residents and council members discussed community events, volunteer recruitment and a traffic petition.
Thomas VanWinkle of 128 Lincoln Ave. updated the council on the Mayor’s Youth Group, saying the Jan. 22 meeting planned spring activities including Earth Day and Easter events and solicited new members in grades 4–12; he announced the next meeting for March 1 at 10:30 a.m. VanWinkle also credited the youth group secretary Eleanor for preparing a QR‑code flyer for registration.
A resident, Stephen Maric (24 Harrison Ave.), volunteered to help form a Saddle Brook Green Team to pursue Sustainable Jersey points and seek grants; council members said they will coordinate a meeting and publicize volunteer opportunities.
Council members acknowledged a petition from residents of Katherine Avenue requesting a speed hump. Councilman Simuka asked the mayor to contact the police traffic officer or run a speed study; Captain Haberman was identified as the traffic point of contact.
Councilwoman Maser announced the annual car show, scheduled for Sept. 7 with a rain date of Oct. 5, and encouraged attendance.
The council noted these community items will be followed up by staff and committees and encouraged residents to monitor the township’s communications channels for meeting dates and volunteer opportunities.
