Saddle Brook to move senior center to municipal complex; library expands hours and programs

At its Feb. 20 meeting the Saddle Brook Township Council approved moving the Senior Center to the new municipal complex and described expanded library services and free tax assistance.
Mayor Robert White said the senior center move — from the facility at 8 Caldwell (old building) to the municipal complex’s recreation side — will begin next week; there will be no daily activities during the move and the mayor said officials expect services to resume in the first week of March. White said the change is intended to provide newer facilities, more space and cost savings on utilities and maintenance.
On eligibility and access, the mayor noted programming is aimed at residents 55 and older (the town’s existing ARP materials reference 50 as eligible for some offerings) and that officials plan to expand activities to attract more participants. White said about “30–35 people a day” currently use the center and that the new site should support additional programs.
Council members also outlined library changes: new hours (Monday–Thursday 10 a.m.–8 p.m.; Friday–Saturday 10 a.m.–5 p.m.), a renovated teen area, museum pass lending, a Lego club, chair yoga, bilingual story time and a seed library for spring planting. The council encouraged residents to check the library website and Facebook page for details.
The council announced AARP Foundation Tax‑Aide will provide free tax preparation at the library on Thursdays and Fridays from Feb. 6 through April 11 by appointment; the administration and library will share a flyer and QR code for scheduling.
Council members said the municipal complex move and expanded library programming aim to maintain service levels, reduce operating costs and broaden recreational and social opportunities for seniors.
