The proclamation, signed by President Stacy Altman, says Coello joined the department in 1959, rose to lieutenant in 1969, was named chief in 1984 and retired in 1993. It cites Coello’s role introducing the DARE program to local schools and making Scott Township a regional police training center, and it recounts an incident in which Coello crossed a 14-inch girder 90 feet above Whiskey Hollow Run to bring a distraught man to safety.
Chief John Ace Coello spoke at the meeting and accepted the proclamation. “I just want to thank all of you,” Coello said, reflecting on his decades of service and ties to the community. Board members and staff presented a commemorative item and invited Coello’s family forward to accept the award.
The Board signed the proclamation dated Nov. 25, 2025, and said the township intends to retain a display item in the police department. No formal policy changes or fiscal commitments were attached to the recognition.
The public meeting resumed after the presentation and proceeded with the rest of the agenda.
