Lynbrook swears in new officer, promotes two supervisors

The Lynbrook Village Board on Tuesday welcomed Police Officer William Dugan, a Lynbrook resident and former New York City Police Department officer, and promoted two department supervisors in a ceremonial swearing-in.

The village’s police chief announced that Dugan, who graduated from Lynbrook High School and later served with the NYPD, was hired under the village’s resident-preference list. The board also promoted Sergeant Michael Monahan and Lieutenant Eric Broom; each officer’s education, military or field experience and departmental training roles were described during the introductions.

At the ceremony, officials administered the oath of office. The chief said the promoted officers “have consistently exemplified core values of integrity, service and leadership,” and the board offered congratulations to the officers and their families.

The board’s formal records show the appointment of Officer Dugan and the promotions of Monahan and Broom were acknowledged by the trustees during the meeting; there was applause and family members attended for photos after the swearing-in.

The chief and trustees said the promotions will place Monahan and Broom in supervisory roles responsible for officer training, firearms and tactics instruction and roadway safety initiatives. No implementation timeline or additional budgetary changes tied to the promotions were recorded in the meeting materials.

The board adjourned the ceremonial portion of the meeting after remarks and photos.
