South Whitehall Township commissioners advanced a comprehensive Phase One transportation plan focused on active transportation and safety and authorized staff to release an RFP for a Hamilton Boulevard road safety audit on March 19.
Staff and Bowman Consulting presented a 172-page draft that integrates public input, crash data and prioritized corridors. Commissioners praised the report as a data-driven roadmap and discussed posting the draft for public review. Staff said they aimed to bring the plan back for formal adoption at the April 16 meeting and to invite Bowman representatives to the meeting for a consultant briefing.
Separately, the board authorized releasing an RFP for a road safety audit (RSA) of Hamilton Boulevard using a $150,000 grant from the Lehigh Safety Alliance; staff said the RSA will assemble stakeholders and provide the documentation needed to pursue federal and state implementation funding.
Commissioners and staff singled out a high-priority intersection along Route 309 as one of the plan’s key corridors for regional advocacy and possible coordination with PennDOT. The board authorized publication of the RSA RFP 5–0.
What’s next: staff will post the refined draft, finalize details with Bowman Consulting, target April 16 for adoption and proceed with the RSA procurement and stakeholder outreach.
