Mayor Calibri outlines stepped-up patrols and community outreach after recent Penn Hills homicides

Mayor Calibri said Penn Hills officials are responding to a string of recent shootings and homicides with a mix of local enforcement and intergovernmental coordination. "The actual investigation itself was turned over to County homicide," Calibri said, adding that the borough has convened with the chief of police and other local leaders and is working with federal, state and county officials.
The mayor said the borough has taken immediate operational steps, including increasing patrols and assigning not fewer than two officers to each police car when possible, and is partnering with the DUI task force. "Public safety is a priority," Calibri said, and she urged residents to bring forward suggestions and tips to municipal leaders.
Calibri said officials are also working with community organizations, naming Moms Demand Action and Ceasefire as groups the borough has engaged for outreach. She said a draft ordinance intended to address public-safety concerns is in preparation and that council members, who are also borough residents, are actively pursuing local remedies while recognizing limits of local authority in criminal investigations.
The mayor closed by asking residents to be vigilant and to contact the municipal office with information. The council then adjourned.
