Masconomet School Committee elects new chair and selects vice chair after extended debate

The Masconomet Regional School District School Committee reorganized its leadership on May 27, electing Adrian as chair and selecting a vice chair following extended discussion and multiple nominations.

Under Policy BBA (school committee organization), the committee opened nominations for chair. A floor nomination for Adrian was seconded, and the committee took a roll-call vote. Adrian accepted the position and thanked members "for the vote of confidence," saying he appreciated the trust and the work ahead.

Members then moved to fill the vice chair role. Nominees included Jeff Oregon, Joe, Lisa and Megan Myers. Candidates addressed the committee about availability and leadership experience; some members raised concerns about attendance and the heavy workload facing the leadership team during a transition year. The committee held straw polls by town and then a formal roll-call vote; after several tallies and some members withdrawing nominations, the chair declared a vice chair elected by a majority of members present and voting.

Throughout the reorganization debate, members emphasized the demands ahead: the budget process, capital projects, contract negotiations, and onboarding a new superintendent. Several members said the vice chair must be able to meet during daytime leadership sessions and to work closely with the chair and administration.

The leadership elections were motions taken and resolved during the meeting; the committee did not take additional formal motions to change Policy BBA during this session.
