Council ratifies two-year contract with streets union, approves 3% raises each year

The St. Peter City Council ratified a two-year collective bargaining agreement with International Union of Operating Engineers Local 70 (streets bargaining unit) after returning from an executive session on Monday.
City Administrator Todd summarized the contract terms: the agreement runs from Jan. 4, 2026 through Dec. 31, 2027 and includes a 3% wage increase in each year, an increased uniform allowance of $125 at the start of the contract period, and a carryover (leave or similar accrual) amount set at $650. Todd also said the contract restores previously used language allowing employees to start work a half-hour early and leave a half-hour early the day before a holiday.
Council members had discussed the contract during closed session as permitted by Minnesota statute and voted in open session to approve the resolution authorizing the agreement.
