Wareham Select Board approves new restaurant licenses, accepts donation and appoints zoning board associate

The Wareham Select Board on Jan. 20 approved a series of restaurant licenses and routine municipal business, voting unanimously to permit a new Tropical Smoothie Cafe and to grant a wine & malt restaurant license and common victualler license to Simply Smith’s Catering d/b/a The Deli at Onset Bay.
Karen Fere, who identified herself as the owner‑operator of Tropical Smoothie Cafe at 3020 Cranberry Highway, described the concept — smoothies, salads, wraps and bowls — and told the board she already operates two other locations. The board moved and seconded the application, and the motion carried on a roll‑call vote of the members present.
The board also opened and closed a public hearing for Simply Smith’s/The Deli at Onset Bay. Manager Jean Sullivan described the proposed operation as a 1,200‑square‑foot, single‑floor deli with seating for about 50, planned hours of 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., no live entertainment and an intention to serve beer and wine. After hearing from the applicant and a representative, Mr. Silverberg, the board voted to approve the licenses pending payment of fees, completion of paperwork and satisfactory inspections.
The board renewed annual licenses for Miss Lisa’s New Orleans Cuisine LLC and approved an entertainment license for El Mariachi for 2026, each approval conditioned on fees and inspections.
The board also voted to accept a $1,371.14 donation from the Friends of the Wareham Council on Aging to fund a dishwasher replacement for the Council on Aging kitchen. Select Board members made and seconded the motion and approved it by roll call.
In other business, the board appointed Connor Alden as an associate member to the Zoning Board of Appeals with a term to expire June 30, 2026; Alden briefly acknowledged the appointment. The Select Board approved its Jan. 6 meeting minutes and then adjourned at about 7:50 p.m.
The board’s approvals are contingent on the usual post‑approval steps (fees paid, paperwork completed, satisfactory inspections).
