The Transportation and Commerce Committee approved a mayoral appointment for Margaret McDonald to the Airport Arts Advisory Committee and referred the nomination to the full Board of Aldermen.
Margaret McDonald told the committee she holds a BFA in art history and a second degree in interior architecture, and that she has worked as an interior designer with HOK and Arcturus. She described experience on the Downtown SID board — including serving as president during a transition — and said she now runs a consulting business focused on mentoring early-career designers. “It’s such an exciting time to participate in this way with the expansion, the new terminal, and really seeing how art can represent our community,” McDonald said.
Committee members responded with support. Alderman Narayan, Alderwoman Sweitzer and Alderwoman Cox Santwe thanked McDonald for volunteering to serve; one member noted an interest in preserving the Alicia La Chance terrazzo medallion currently in Terminal 1 as the airport changes. A motion to approve McDonald’s appointment passed by unanimous consent in committee; the chair said her nomination will go before the full Board of Aldermen on Friday.
