Noble County Parks Board re-elects Diane Scott, creates treasurer role and recommends Donna Schwarz to fill vacancy

Diane Scott, president of the Noble County Parks and Recreation Board, opened the Feb. 25 meeting and was re-elected president for another year in a voice vote. The board also voted to install a newly created treasurer position and approved Kevin Yant to serve in that role.
Scott told members the board’s ordinance was amended to add the treasurer seat effective with the first meeting of the year and invited nominations for president, vice president, secretary and treasurer. After a motion and a second, members re-elected Scott and then moved to nominate and confirm Kevin Yant as treasurer.
Grace Caswell, identified in the meeting as the board’s secretary and a Visit Noble representative, accepted nomination for vice president and was approved by voice vote. Caswell said she was “committed to being at the meetings” and to supporting the treasurer role as it is established.
The board discussed the secretary role, which the ordinance allows to be filled by a county employee or a volunteer who need not be a board member. Diane Scott said she intended to nominate Chris Hul of the Parks Department, but members raised scheduling concerns and the board agreed to table the secretary vote until a nominee can formally accept.
On board membership, Scott outlined recent departures and appointment authorities: two members are appointed by the circuit court judge, one by the county board of commissioners, and one or two by the county council; Grace represents the county extension. The board moved, seconded and approved a recommendation letter to the circuit court judge urging appointment of Donna Schwarz to fill the seat vacated by Jim Haddock.
Scott said she would draft the recommendation letter and requested a short bio from Schwarz to include in the submission. The motion to recommend Schwarz carried by voice vote.
The board confirmed its next regular meeting will be March 25 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. and adjourned at 3:12 p.m.
