Supervisors approve corrections hire and move $350,000 in county funds

Human resources director Becky Chapen requested board approval to hire Allison Culper as a PRN corrections officer at an hourly rate of $22.16, effective May 20, 2026, and to authorize the county auditor to issue biweekly pay. The motion to hire was moved by Supervisor Mike Steinus and seconded by Supervisor Nen Fleggo; after a roll-call-style vote the motion carried (tally recorded as 2 yes, 1 no). Chapen said the department had three PRN vacancies and had focused recent recruiting on female officers to ensure coverage when female detainees are present.
Auditor Lisa Smith asked the board to approve the May 19, 2026 meeting and work session minutes and to authorize publication in the official newspapers. The board approved the minutes by voice vote.
Smith also presented Resolution 1186-05-26-2026 to transfer $250,000 from the general fund (01000) to the capital projects conservation fund (33000) to hold unspent money for a future project; the board approved the resolution. Separately, the board approved a reimbursement warrant moving $100,000 from the general fund to the capital improvement jail fund to reimburse the sheriff’s office for inmate room-and-board expenses.
No legal or administrative conditions were attached to the approvals at the meeting; the auditors said necessary paperwork would be executed following the votes.
