Board honors SRO Sergeant Craig Sawyer and recognizes 62 seniors for Seal of Biliteracy

The Baldwin County Public Schools board opened its meeting with several commendations, honoring a long-serving school resource officer and student academic achievements.
Safety Supervisor Jeff Spaller introduced Sergeant Craig Sawyer of the Fairhope Police Department and praised his career and mentorship role in schools, calling him "dependable, consistent, reliable'dedicated to the service of others" and noting his 39 years in law enforcement. Tonya Harrelson of J. Larry Newton Elementary read a written commendation saying Sawyer "built a strong, meaningful bond with students, families, and staff" and that his contributions "will be deeply missed at J. Larry Newton." Applause followed the remarks.
Assistant Superintendent Joe Sharp announced that Spanish Fort Middle School has been named a PLC at Work model school after documenting three years of student growth. Sharp invited the school's guiding coalition to the dais to accept recognition.
ESL Supervisor Stephanie Montiel told the board that 62 Baldwin County seniors across eight high schools will receive the Alabama State Seal of Biliteracy for demonstrating proficiency in languages including Chinese, French, German, Portuguese, Spanish and Turkish. Montiel noted Foley High School led the district with 25 seniors earning the seal.
The board took no formal action on the commendations; staff and students were recognized and photographed for district records.
