Glendale Heights police recognized after officers resuscitate local woman

Police Chief George Papus presented life‑saving award plaques and pins on May 21 to Officer Kenneth Lenzel and Officer Sha Fararzi for their actions on April 11 at the Smoothie King on Army Trail Road.
Chief Papus said Officer Lenzel was first on scene, initiated chest compressions and attached an automated external defibrillator (AED) that delivered a shock when indicated. Officer Fararzi continued chest compressions and assisted until Bloomingdale paramedics arrived and transported the patient to the University of Chicago Glen Oaks Hospital. Hospital staff later credited the officers’ quick response with helping preserve Christine Galassie’s life.
Galassie attended the meeting and presented gifts and personal thanks to the officers. "I don't know how you say thank you to someone who saved your life," she said, visibly emotional.
Mayor Janelli and trustees joined in recognizing the officers’ professionalism and the community’s gratitude. The board took a group photo with the officers and Ms. Galassie.
