Monroe Town Council approved a set of public-safety purchases at its Sept. 4 meeting, authorizing a Flex Mobile records-management purchase and a squad-car/body-camera installation plan after staff presented competing quotes.
Marshals presented a Motorola Flex Mobile quote originally shown at $15,600, and staff later said the sheriff's deputy chief reported a vendor estimate closer to $11,000. A councilor moved to approve the purchase "as long as it doesn't go over the amount of $15,61" and the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
On body and in-car camera systems, staff presented vendor quotes that separated initial equipment costs from multi-year service plans. The presentation noted a five-year service plan that would put total costs north of $30,000 over five years and identified local and out-of-area installers; staff recommended the vendor that would remove old equipment and perform the complete install. The council approved the installation by voice vote.
Staff said there are outstanding clarifications about whether some antenna, licensing or upload costs are included in the vendor quotes; they will confirm the final contract scope and costs before work begins.
Why it matters: the purchases are intended to bring Monroe's records and video systems in line with countywide systems, improving record-keeping and evidence management. Councilors emphasized getting multiple quotes, understanding recurring service costs, and confirming whether quoted prices include removal, installation and ongoing licensing.
Next steps: staff will finalize vendor selection, confirm installation scope and costs, and return any additions to council if they change the previously approved not-to-exceed approach.
