On April 14, 2025, the Temple City Council read and adopted a proclamation recognizing April as Child Abuse Prevention Month and called upon citizens and local partners to support families and prevention efforts.
Desiree Kendrick of the West Georgia Child Advocacy Center addressed the council and described the center’s services in Haralson and Carol counties. Kendrick said the center ‘‘conducted 400 plus interviews last year’’ (she additionally referenced cumulative historical totals and service counts in her remarks) and noted the center provided about 3,500 services in 2024 to children and non-offending caregivers. Kendrick also said the center recently began on-site forensic medical services through a sexual-assault nurse examiner program so children no longer must travel to receive those exams.
Kendrick urged continued community support and described the CAC as a ‘‘one-stop shop’’ for forensic interviews, trauma-focused therapy and family advocacy services. Council members applauded the proclamation; the transcript records the mayor calling Kendrick forward and members receiving blue pins distributed by the center.
