Temple mayor outlines 2025 priorities, cites infrastructure and public-safety gains

The address listed 2024 accomplishments in public works, including the Villa Rosa lift station upgrade and paving on Wester Lake, Arbor Landing, Lakeland Park and Villa Rosa Road. The mayor said the city retained staff and increased training in erosion control, confined-space safety, traffic control and water and sewer operations. ‘‘We completed the Villa Rosa lift station upgrade and carried out major repairs and paving across key roads,’’ the mayor said.
Looking ahead, the mayor highlighted two capital projects described as in the latter stages: the Sage Street water line and the Williams Mill Creek Interceptor sewer upgrade, and announced the opening of a new public works maintenance facility. The address also noted completion of the AMI water meter project and a new partnership with Akens Consulting for financial services.
On public safety, the mayor noted recent additions to the police department, saying the department had ‘‘acquired new armor vest, headgear, and AR-15 rifles for all officers’’ and added a canine officer, handler and patrol vehicle; the mayor described continued emphasis on competitive compensation and a goal of keeping Temple among the region’s safest cities. Chief Craig Lee also appeared during the meeting to introduce new officers.
Other highlights included human-resources improvements (a new payroll system and expanded training), leadership changes at the senior center, recreation facility upgrades including renovated courts and new pickleball courts, and ongoing wastewater-plant maintenance projects. The mayor closed by urging continued civic partnership and staff professionalism as the city implements its 2025 work plan.
