Farmville board adopts FY 2024–25 budget; auditor recommends pay changes begin with first full pay period

The Farmville board adopted the town’s FY 2024–25 budget during its June 3 meeting and agreed to an auditor-recommended timing change for employee pay adjustments.
Town Manager David Tyon presented the budget at the required public hearing, saying the budget document had been distributed May 6 and placed for public inspection in the clerk’s office and the Farmville Public Library. He invited public comment; none was offered.
Commissioner Evans moved to adopt the budget as presented. During discussion the auditor’s office recommended that any adjustments to employee pay begin at the first full pay period of the fiscal year to avoid splitting a pay period between fiscal years; the board agreed that the first full pay period would begin July 4 and accepted that timing clarification before voting to approve the budget.
The board voted unanimously to adopt the budget and carry the timing clarification into the payroll process. After the vote Tyon thanked department heads and staff for their work preparing the document.
The budget package, the board’s vote and the payroll-timing clarification conclude the formal adoption step; staff will implement the budget in the coming fiscal year and process pay changes consistent with the board’s timing instruction.
