Prichard police and fire report: multiple shootings and a hit‑and‑run injure residents

At the Jan. 15 Prichard City Council meeting, the fire and police departments presented weekly activity reports.
Fire Department: The fire report for Jan. 9–15 listed 54 calls, including six fires — three building fires, two trash fires and one vehicle fire. The fire chief said one trash fire occurred in District 5 and several building fires were listed by address; the chief said cause information would be provided to council members when available.
Police Department: The police report covering Jan. 3–9 recorded 302 calls. Notable incidents included a Jan. 7 hit‑and‑run in which two juveniles were struck by a black pickup; the driver did not remain on scene and the victims were taken to University Hospital with non‑life‑threatening injuries. The police report also listed multiple shootings across districts on Jan. 4 and Jan. 8; one victim was transported with serious injuries in an incident reported at 5957 Highway 45 and other victims sustained grazes or non‑life‑threatening wounds. Investigations are ongoing and the department has asked the public for tips.
Chief Shoots urged pedestrian caution and asked residents to cross in well‑lit areas, noting the hit‑and‑run could have resulted in more serious harm.
