The St. Pete Beach City Commission approved a one-time 10% salary increase for City Clerk Renee Rose on May 26 after reviewing a 360-degree evaluation and market comparators.
Rose presented a packet that included a self-evaluation, a 360-summary of feedback from peers and staff, a list of accomplishments, and a request for a market-based one-time adjustment plus contract language tying future cost-of-living and merit eligibility to the same standards applied to general employees.
Commissioners debated an appropriate adjustment level; proposals ranged from roughly 6% to 12% during the public discussion. Commissioner Maldonado argued Rose was "punching above her weight" given her performance and recommended a 12% increase, while other commissioners preferred smaller adjustments tied to certification and future merit. The majority coalesced around a 10% one-time adjustment and contract language that allows the clerk to receive the same COLA and merit-based adjustments as other city employees.
The motion to set the clerk's salary to $107,217 (a 10% increase) and to adopt the contract amendment passed on a roll-call vote: Maldonado yes; Marriott yes; Vice Mayor Robinson no; Commissioner Cy yes; Mayor Tate yes.
The commission instructed staff to include the new language in a second amendment and to place the finalized contract on a future consent agenda for adoption. Rose said the evaluation reflected strengths in professionalism, responsiveness and collaboration and that she will pursue continued professional certification (MMC) and team-development goals.
