Council approves Canyon Contracting proposal for Hibberger Park site improvements

Assistant Public Works Director Matt Esel presented staff's recommendation to award site-improvement work for Hibberger Park's restroom facility, describing the scope as sidewalks, utility connections and foundations needed to finish the restroom site.
Esel said multiple contracts were issued for separate pieces of the broader park project (restroom building, playground and site work) and recommended awarding the site-improvement package to Canyon Contracting LLC; he noted Canyon recently completed a similar restroom facility in Sublimity. "Their bid was a little bit below Emmery and Suns," Esel said, adding bids were competitive and that one bidder declined because of schedule conflicts.
A motion to approve the Canyon Contracting LLC proposal (amount as read into the record) was made, seconded and passed by voice vote. Council members commented on prevailing-wage paperwork and construction costs; staff said some smaller, follow-up contracts (plumbing, crane) would likely be handled in-house because they fall below the report-to-council threshold.
The council did not request additional study before approving the award and moved on to the next agenda item.
