Commissioners noted $90,000 had been earmarked for the project from opioid settlement/drug-fund proceeds and discussed striking optional items (lighting, flooring) to reduce cost; Mr. Hot said the lighting and floor work could be deferred. With only one bidder, commissioners expressed caution about awarding the contract immediately. President Burril moved to table the decision until the next meeting (June 9) and directed staff to seek negotiations with the contractor and to confirm the sheriff's timeline for occupancy. The motion to table was agreed to.
The matter will return to the commission with updated scope, potential negotiated price and timeline information; commissioners emphasized balancing prompt occupancy needs against fiscal prudence.
