Apache Junction Planning and Zoning Commission continues Banyan Apartments rezoning to June 23

The Apache Junction Planning and Zoning Commission on May 26 voted unanimously to continue rezoning case P-26-4-PZ, the Banyan Apartments planned development, to its June 23, 2026 meeting after the applicant asked for more time to amend submittal documents.
Principal Planner Nick Lovetrich told the commission the project is a proposed planned development on 6.7 net acres at “the southeast corner of Roanoke and Virginia” and that the applicant requested the continuance to address concerns raised by staff and commissioners, most notably the parking ratio. Lovetrich summarized the applicant’s request and recommended continuing the public hearing to allow revisions to the application.
Chairman Hansche opened the public portion of the hearing for comments; no members of the public spoke. Vice Chair Barker moved to continue the case to June 23, 2026; the motion was seconded and carried on a roll-call vote with all commissioners recorded as voting yes.
The commission did not take additional action on the rezoning at the May 26 meeting. The case will return for a full presentation and public hearing at the June 23 Planning and Zoning Commission meeting, when the applicant is expected to present amended materials addressing the parking ratio and related site issues.
