Staff reports more than 300 responses to comprehensive-plan survey; training on KRS 100 changes planned

Amanda, speaking for planning staff, told the Berea Planning Commission on Aug. 12 that consultants toured the city to gather public input and the comprehensive-plan survey has so far received more than 300 responses.
She said the survey has been distributed via Facebook and the local newspaper and will be mailed with utility bills this month; staff has included QR codes in paper mailings and emails to allow electronic respondents to access the survey. Consultants will also staff a tent at the Spoon Bread Festival to gather in-person input, and the survey will remain open through the end of the project with periodic data pulls.
Amanda flagged upcoming training tied to statutory changes in KRS 100 and House Bill 55 passed by the most recent legislature; staff plans local sessions and will try to schedule House Bill 55-compliant training in Berea. She noted a planning-and-zoning virtual training offered Oct. 29 (about four hours) with modules that include medical-cannabis annexation, annexation generally, and board-of-adjustment procedures. The session is organized through KLC (Kentucky League of Cities), and staff asked commissioners to notify Melissa or Amanda if they want to attend.
Staff said the steering committee meeting date will be set soon, and the next regular commission meeting is scheduled in two weeks, when staff expects to discuss bond and letter-of-credit renewals.
