Redmond unveils draft 2026 public art master plan, schedules June 9 study session

Cultural arts supervisor Chris Weber presented a near‑final public art master plan update and asked the committee for initial feedback ahead of a June 9 study session with consultants.
"91% of questionnaire respondents agreed that public art is important to their experience of the city," Weber said, summarizing widespread support from outreach that included 461 questionnaire responses and more than two dozen stakeholder interviews. The draft plan proposes three framework goals—citywide public art, arts ecosystem and city systems—and recommends policies, funding strategies and governance changes to sustain and expand public art across parks, streets and capital projects.
Councilmembers asked staff to strengthen explicit links between the public art update and the city’s comprehensive plan, ensure performing arts and interactive/experiential work are represented, and provide clearer short/medium/long‑term timelines and budget implications. Staff said consultants from MIG will present detailed recommendations at the June 9 study session and that proposed funding updates will follow in a separate presentation.
The committee provided feedback and staff said they will incorporate council comments for the study session.
