Commission approves appointments, library changes, grant application revisions and financial scheduling in routine business

Library policy: Commissioners approved an update to the library checkout policy to align with the county system: increases the item limit (from 10 to 15) and reduces the standard loan period for non-new books from 28 days to 14 days while retaining two automatic renewals.
Surplus donation and finance items: The commission authorized donation of surplus Mercedes Fire Department protective gear to the sister city of Almois, Mexico; Fire Chief Compos said the gear had reached end-of-service thresholds and would otherwise be destroyed. The commission also approved Ordinance 26-2026-01 ordering a May 2, 2026 election and adopted Resolution 26-03 to reschedule the sale of certificates of obligation to Feb. 17, 2026, with staff emphasizing no change to the amounts and that more time was needed to finalize required sale information.
Urban county program: Commissioners adopted Resolution 2026-04, approving the fiscal-year 2026 work plan and budget for the urban county program; staff said the resurfacing and engineering work is expected to begin within two weeks of final signatures and estimated one to two weeks of on-site work for initial projects.
