Huron approves resolution to pursue $247,425 TAP grant for waterfront Wall Street bike path

The Huron City Council on May 12 approved Resolution 43‑2026 to ratify the city manager’s application to the Erie County Regional Planning Commission Metropolitan Planning Organization Transportation Alternatives Program for funding of the Huron Waterfront Wall Street segment.
City Manager Hamilton described the project as an off‑road bike path linking the pier, Lakefront Park and adjacent streets. "This is one leg of this," Hamilton said, adding the $247,425 request represents about half of the expected cost for the Wall Street segment and that construction would likely occur in 2027 or 2028 if the application is successful.
Hamilton thanked the ERPC‑MPO for partnership on such projects and said the funding would enable the city to pursue enhanced multi‑use connectivity between the pier and parks. Council voted to place the resolution on first reading and moved forward with adoption procedures during the meeting.
The resolution authorizes the city manager to accept a grant and enter into an agreement with ERPC‑MPO should the application be awarded.
