Board approves five-year SPA contract after membership overwhelmingly ratifies agreement

The Schiller Park School District 81 Board of Education voted May 20 to approve a five-year contract with the SPA covering the 2026–2031 term.

Board members said the negotiations were collaborative. On behalf of the board, a presiding member thanked the negotiations committee and praised open, honest communication that the speaker said will support staff and students going forward.

Miss Wana, speaking during public participation as president of the SPA association, told the board that 91% of the union’s membership voted and “over 85% approved the contract,” calling the agreement an investment in classroom conditions and in retaining and attracting educators. “When we support our teachers, our students thrive and the entire community wins,” she said.

A board member who participated in negotiations also thanked committee members by name, saying the five-year contract “reflects a strong professional relationship” and balances staff support with fiscal responsibility.

The board’s motion to approve the SPA contract was moved and seconded (motion language: “approve the SPA contract for 2026 to 2031 term as presented”), and the approval was recorded by roll-call vote. The board did not provide detailed salary or budgetary figures during the meeting; those details were included in the contract documents in the packet.

The board’s approval completes its formal action on the contract; Miss Wana’s remarks indicated union ratification had already occurred. The district thanked those involved in negotiations and encouraged staff to enjoy the close of the school year.
