The Greene County Board of Education adopted a resolution approving the district’s 'Portrait of a Graduate,' a community-driven statement of competencies district leaders plan to use to guide curriculum, instruction and professional development.
Superintendent described the portrait as the result of community meetings, school-based input and nearly 1,000 stakeholders who contributed to defining competencies such as critical thinking, communication and problem solving. Staff said the 2026–27 school year will function as a learning year focused on teacher professional development, with a competency-of-the-month approach to socialize the portrait across schools and grade levels.
Board members asked whether the portrait would support advanced-academic classes. Presenters said the competencies are intended to augment curricular standards and give more students access to advanced skills by making expectations explicit and supporting teachers to design evidence-based student work. The resolution was presented for adoption and approved by voice vote.
Next steps noted by staff include additional community presentations and work to develop grade-level proficiency scales and assessment evidence aligned to each competency before full implementation.
