Parents and students showcase MAPS learning and launch 'Recess Restored' summer program

At its May 19 meeting the Lincolnshire‑Prairieview SD 103 Board of Education recognized student programming and heard a community proposal for a student‑led summer play and restorative practice series.
District staff introduced Sprag’s MAPS program (music, art, physical education and Spanish), describing students’ enthusiasm and the variety of activities. Teachers and program leads invited board members to visit classrooms and shared a video showing MAPS lessons in action.
During public comment, parent Tiffany Urbanski and her children described a new community effort called Recess Restored. Urbanski said the program will meet once a week from 5 to 6 p.m., beginning June 5 and running through July 17 (weather permitting), with a first‑day equipment drive and an emphasis on practicing restorative repair through play. "Recess Restored," she said, is intended for "all D103 students" and organizers plan to consider converting the effort into an after‑school club if it proves popular.
The board also received final reports from student board representatives and announced the student representatives for 2026–27: Anish Kalva Moola (7th grade), Shri Vasa (8th grade) and Ayan Gapor. Student representatives summarized the Washington, D.C. 8th‑grade trip (April 24–27), Camp Duncan outdoor education for sixth graders and an eight‑week Shark Tank entrepreneurship program that concluded with student pitches on May 18.
The celebration of student work, a grant‑funded menu of new classroom resources and the Recess Restored presentation rounded out the board’s recognition of student engagement for the year.
