Oak County board advances policy review, amends meeting calendar and approves modified personnel recommendations

At the May 11 meeting the Oak County School District Board of Trustees moved forward on governance and personnel matters: trustees completed second readings and approvals for a set of policy manual sections (JA–JIE, JIF and JIG), conducted a first reading for other J-series policies (JIH–J), amended the upcoming board calendar, and approved a modified employment recommendations list after executive session.

Policy work: Board members described an extended review process to align district policies with state mandates and current practice. A motion was made and the board approved the second reading of policies JA through JIE, JIF and JIG; the J-series was broken into sections given its length. The group also took first reading action on policies JIH through J.

Calendar: Trustees voted to amend the 2026–27 board calendar, striking June 15 and moving the retreat and meeting to Monday, June 8 (retreat at 9:00 a.m.; meeting at 6:00 p.m.). A board member moved that change and the motion carried.

Personnel: The board entered executive session for personnel items, employment recommendation changes and an employee evaluation. On return to open session trustees discussed line seven of the employment recommendations, chose to postpone that specific line pending additional research, and approved the remaining modified employment recommendations by motion and vote. No action was taken on the employee evaluation during this meeting.

The board adjourned following the personnel vote. The actions advance a months-long policy audit, set calendar logistics for the coming year and clear a slate of personnel items with one item deferred for further review.
