Kings Local board honors retiring staff and spotlights student achievements

The Kings Local Board of Education opened its May 19 meeting by recognizing more than a dozen staff members who are retiring this year and by spotlighting student achievements across the district.
Mr. Spinner introduced the retiree recognitions, listing educators and staff with careers spanning decades and thanking them for their service to Kings Local School District. "We have the privilege of recognizing an outstanding group of retirees whose combined years of service have made an incredible impact on the Kings Local School District," he said. The board named teachers, counselors, secretaries and administrators, including Jill Swanson (37 years), Cheryl Montag (41 years) and Leanne Bell (33 years at Kings), among others.
The presentations continued with student representatives from the district's RAISE program and the Kings High School chapter of Business Professionals of America. RAISE representatives noted district honors — including the Best Communities for Music Education award for the 10th consecutive year — and recapped athletics milestones and other student successes. "For the 10th year in a row, Kings has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education Award," one student said.
Students from the Warren County Career Center and Kings High School reported national results at the 2026 BPA National Leadership Conference in Nashville. Student presenters said multiple teams and individuals placed in the top 10 nationally in events ranging from promotional photography to network design. "It is an honor for the three of us to share our team's remarkable national achievements with you tonight," said Catherine Linneman, one of the students representing the BPA chapter.
The board also heard a KME Cafe presentation by second-grade teachers about a year-long economics and service-learning project that has raised funds for Make-A-Wish and engaged students in roles such as host, server and cashier. Amy Edwards said the project taught real-life economic concepts and teamwork and reported district fundraising totals tied to the project.
The board's recognitions and student spotlights concluded with applause and thanks from trustees. No formal board action was required for the presentations. The meeting moved on to public participation and routine business afterward.
