The board approved several personnel items May 13, including new hires, an EAP contract amendment and payroll/timecard corrections.
An HR representative notified the board that Joel Liry will begin May 18 as a water distribution operator and asked for approval of three mayor’s-office interns: Haley Collins (starting May 18), Brillin Clayhammer (May 26) and Lane Harris (May 26). "First one is water distribution operator... Joel Liry and he will be starting on May the 18th of 2026," the HR presenter said. The board approved the interns by motion.
The board also approved an amendment to the city’s employee assistance program. The amendment notes a company address change and sets the monthly per-employee fee at $2.88 based on a reported 104 employees and volunteers; the contract continues for another three years.
Board members and legal counsel discussed how PTO and holiday hours rolled when staff moved to 10-hour work days. The board approved converting an earned eight-hour holiday to a 10-hour day for three employees—Willie Daniels, Todd Carter and Jordan McCauski—to prevent a pay shortfall, and a separate request to restore an eight-hour vacation day for Alyssa after it was miscoded. Legal counsel said the adjustment was appropriate and the action was recorded in the minutes for audit clarity.
Why it matters: the hires fill staffing needs, the EAP contract maintains employee mental-health benefits at a small per-employee cost, and the payroll corrections prevent unintended pay reductions for staff during a schedule change. Staff will report hires and contract documents in payroll and personnel records at the next meeting.
