Separately the streets committee discussed a T DOT proposal to realign lanes at the South Chancery and West Main intersection to remove a confusing merge and ease movements for large vehicles. T DOT indicated it would perform the change at no expense to the city; aldermen said the realignment could be reverted if it caused new problems. The committee authorized staff to send a letter to T DOT supporting the change and approved moving forward.
Members emphasized pedestrian safety for young parents with strollers and noted that the lane change aims to reduce vehicle conflicts near the library and improve truck clearance at a frequently struck bell feature.
